Packing, container loading and lead times

In short: CENSIL silica ships in multi-wall kraft paper bags with a PE moisture liner — typically 20 kg net for powders and 25 kg for granular grades — on 1200 × 1000 mm heat-treated pallets, 40 bags to a pallet. A 20-foot container takes roughly 16 tonnes palletised or 18–20 tonnes loose-loaded. Samples ship in 3–5 working days, stock orders in 7–10 days.

How much fits in a container?

Precipitated silica is a light, bulky material. In practice a container normally fills up by volume before it reaches its weight limit, so the figures below move with the grade’s bulk density and with how the container is loaded.

Questions we get asked

How much silica fits in a 20-foot container?

Roughly 16 tonnes palletised, or 18–20 tonnes loose-loaded. Precipitated silica is a light, bulky material: in practice a container usually fills up by volume before it reaches its weight limit, so the figure moves with the grade's bulk density. We confirm the exact load for your grade and loading method with the quotation.

Can we order below the 200 kg minimum?

Trial and pilot quantities go out in 10 kg bags, and sample material is free of charge for qualified enquiries. Below the production minimum the material travels by courier or air rather than sea, so the freight cost per kilogram is higher — worth knowing before you plan the trial.

Is the pallet acceptable for import into our country?

The pallets are heat-treated timber, IPPC marked and compliant with ISPM 15, which is the standard phytosanitary requirement for wood packaging. If your market has an additional requirement, tell us at the enquiry stage.

Is silica a dangerous good for shipping?

No. Synthetic amorphous precipitated silica is non-hazardous for transport, carries no UN number and is not regulated under ADR, DOT, IMDG or IATA. The HS code is 2811.22. An SDS is issued with the documentation set.

How long does the material keep?

24 months from the date of manufacture, in the original sealed packaging, stored dry and away from volatile organic compounds. Silica picks up both moisture and organic vapours from the air, so a bag left open in a solvent store will not behave the way the trial material did.

Can you print our own shipping marks?

Yes. Shipping marks are printed to your requirement. Tell us the mark at order confirmation.

The figures on this page are typical values. Fill weight varies between grades with bulk density, and the container load depends on the grade and the loading method. Exact figures for a specific grade are confirmed with the order.
